#TeamCecil attended the Montgomery County Republican Women’s Meeting on Thursday, September 24th!

Featured guest speaker, Dr. Derek Cohen is the Policy Director for The Texas Public Policy Foundation. The foundation’s mission is to promote liberty, personal responsibility, and free enterprise in Texas and the nation by educating policy makers with research and outreach. Dr. Cohen spoke to the crowd about defunding the police and how diminishing law enforcement has extreme negative effects on public healthcare and safety. For the past few months, the vast majority of law enforcement officers have been overwhelmingly dealing with a variety of issues in the nation. For instance, “if you look at what’s going on locally, jails are letting people out left and right… The problem is that activist judges are giving criminals recognizance bonds on top of the past ones they have already received,” Cohen stated. Basically, people are getting away with crimes and being let back out into society, which causes a heavier strain on police officers the more this happens. However, back in June, President Trump signed an executive order on policing for safe communities to help ensure the safety of this great nation. The order explains that state and local law enforcement agencies need to constantly assess and improve their policies to ensure more transparent, safe and accountable ways for law enforcement to serve their communities. All in all, it is so crucial that we do not defund law enforcement because our communities need protection.

★ Did you know?
-Defunding the police really means cutting pay and beneficial programs for officers. This money is being spent on things that have nothing to do with public safety, like abortions.
-Since the city of Austin defunded the police department by $150 million, violent crime has gone up 60%.

We are so thankful for all of our law enforcement’s hard work and dedication. Texas loves you!

#TeamCecil had a great time with the Montgomery County Republican Women. Keep up the great work ladies!
